RULES FOR THE CLARE COUNTY HORSE PROJECT
GENERAL
  1. Exhibitors must attend at least six (6) meetings of the local horse club during the club year.
  2. Exhibitors must complete all required project records.
  3. Exhibitors must own or have access to and designate a project animal by May 1st. A project sheet with the full side photograph must be to your Administrative Leader by May 1st. Proof of a negative Coggins and immunization record needs to be to the Administrative Leader by May 1st and to the Horse Barn Superintendent by the May horse leader’s association meeting.
  4. Exhibitors must do the grooming, care of tack, stall work and as much training as possible.
  5. A Pee Wee and Walk Trot exhibitor may share a horse with a regular division exhibitor (junior or senior).
  6. Exhibitors may show only one animal per class.
  7. Awards will be as follows: 1st – 6th showing and fitting classes will receive a rosette plus an A-B-C rating. All other participants will receive an A-B-C rating.  The 1st place showman in the senior and junior showmanship will be entered in the appropriate age division of the Overall Champion Livestock Contest.  In all other classes, 1st-6th placing winners will receive placing ribbons plus an A-B-C rating.
  8. Points for Grand and Reserve Champion Horse and overall standings will be computed on one horse per Exhibitor.
  9. Horses may be exercised in the arena during daylight hours only.
  10. Exhibitors may show two (2) animals at the fair if one is 2 years and older, and the second is under 2 years (weanling or yearling). A mare and a foal would be considered as two (2) units.  An exhibitor may bring a second horse if one (1) is a speed horse over the age of 2 years and older. Speed horses must be stalled at the fair the entire week and be exercised daily.
  11. Weanlings and yearlings may be brought in for their class and do not need to be stabled at the fair for the entire week.
  12. All Horses must be on the grounds by 4pm on the opening Sunday of fair.  Horses may not be released until 8pm the following Saturday of fair.
  13. Any unbecoming or unsportsmanlike conduct by an exhibitor may result in disqualification from that event and/or exclusion from remaining events as deemed necessary by the Clare County Youth Equine Association, Horse Barn Superintendent, and/or Fair board.
  14. Exhibitors must be residents of Clare County, enrolled in a Clare County School District, or be enrolled in the Clare County Youth Equine Association.
  15. Members must have a leader and parent permission to enter classes: Jumping, Speed Class, and Fun Classes. Leader and parent signature is required on the project sheet.
  16. Versatility consists of Western Pleasure, English Pleasure, Cloverleaf, and a 3-minute period to completely change horse and rider appointments. Two helpers are allowed for the 3-minute change of appointments, per child. A disqualification from any one segment of versatility will be disqualification from the entire versatility class.
  17. Proper show attire must be worn for all classes and the awards ceremony.
  18. Must have 3 entries to set up Dressage and Cross Bars Classes.
  19. All trophies will be presented at the end of each show day. The Top Ten Award Ceremony will be Friday at 1pm.
  20. The Clare County Youth Horse Program follows the 4-H Horse Show Rules.
AGE GUIDELINES:
  1. The minimum age of a member is 8 years old except pee wee classes and the maximum age is 19 years. Age is determined as of January 1st of the fair year.
  2. An Exhibitor six (6) to seven (7) years old may trailer a horse in for the pee wee. If an exhibitor chooses to do this, they are ineligible to enter any other classes.
  3. The age groups will be as follows:
                       Senior – Age 13-19
                       Junior - Age   8-12
                       Walk Trot
                       Pee Wee 6 - 7 years old.
                       Lead Line 6 - 25 years old
                       Developmentally Disabled To be determined.
     4.  An exhibitor, 14 years and over, riding ponies must ride in their appropriate group with horses.
  
PEE WEE GUIDELINES:
  1. An exhibitor 6 to 7 years of age is eligible.
  2. Exhibitors in the pee wee Division may enter only pee wee Designated classes.
  3. Pee wee Trail Class will have three (3) to four (4) obstacles.
  4. Exhibitors in a Pee Wee Class must wear ASTM -or- SEI approved helmets for all classes.
  5. Lead-line participants may enter either Lead line or PEE WEE classes, NOT BOTH.
Walk Trot GUIDELINES:
  1. Exhibitors at least 8 years of age may show in Walk Trot classes more than one year, eligibility will be determined by the leader and parent.
  2. Participants in Walk Trot may enter only Walk Trot designated classes.
  3. Points will be accumulated in all classes.
  4. Points may be accumulated on only one horse.
  5. Cantering in the Walk Trot classes will result in disqualification if the rider does not bring the horse back to trot. There will be a sixty (60) second penalty for leading or having the horse follow a handler through any pattern. Standard gymkhana rules apply.
